The Lighthouse Projects are clinical programs spanning chronic diseases — epilepsy, haemophilia, and bipolar disorder. Each ran on aging hospital servers with inconsistent backup, no centralized monitoring, and audit trails that wouldn't survive a compliance review.
The brief
Move three clinical platforms out of legacy environments and into a HIPAA-aligned cloud architecture. Maintain clinical data continuity. Don't disrupt active patient care.
What we built
We migrated each program to a hardened AWS architecture with:
- Encrypted-at-rest storage with documented key rotation
- Centralized logging and audit trail aligned to HIPAA Security Rule
- Multi-region failover for disaster recovery (RPO < 15min)
- Identity and access controls for clinicians, researchers, and IT staff
- 24/7 monitoring with response SLAs appropriate to clinical operations
How long it took
Six months end-to-end across all three programs. Each program migrated independently in 6-8 week sprints, with parallel running of old and new for two weeks per cutover.
Outcomes
Zero clinical downtime during cutover. Audit trail accepted by hospital compliance team on first review. Total cost of operation reduced 32% versus the legacy hosted environment.
The three programs now run on the same operating model — one team, one playbook, one SLA. New clinical programs onboard in weeks instead of quarters.
